Dear friends,
There is the report of our meeting two weeks ago in Poland.
Polish friends, Thanks for your organisation.

HEFORE 2nd meeting – Legnica, Poland – 12-16/01/2011

WEDNESDAY 12
Arrival of all partners at the hotel and welcome dinner at the Modjeska Café - Theatre

THURSDAY 13
At the copper museum:
- Presentation of the partners with ice-breaker activities

1. Every one introduces him/herself giving his/her name, what he/she likes and dislikes but the hands of the speaker are the previous hands’ ones.
2. A pink thread is put on the floor. Every partner stands on it but then, without leaving the thread contact, we have to classify the group in alphabetic order.
§ Presentation of Legnica – the town and the culture
§ Discussion on how we organize adult education activities
1. Creative Factory - Poland – workshops: dance and theatre – thanks to the Grundtvig European programme. Before it was under Youth programme or local funds. Now, participants don’t pay... if there is no external support, the participants have to pay a little sum. Dissemination of Hefore in a newspaper
2. Museu da Chapelaria in Portugal – presentation of their report from 1st meeting – see Kinga’s pictures – it’s been made of hat’s material; usual activities are still running but new activities will be launched under the name of Creative factory (like the Polish partner) à theatre, design, contemporary arts... with people with social problems, special needs... so that people who were not used to dare opening the door enter. Rui is Deputy Mayor, in charge of culture. Carla works for the local theatre (that organizes workshops, festivals...) for amateurs/volunteers and professionals.
The Portuguese delegation talked about the workshops and activities promoted by the educational services of Museu da Chapelaria, of Paços da Cultura (local theatre, art gallery and archive ) and of public library – all cultural buildings which belong to the municipality. Their technicians develop activities using museum materials or games and presentations about local History or reading, for instance. Although, there are workshops that have to be done by experts like in theatre, creative writing, dancing or photography. Some of these workshops are made in different cultural buildings to find new audiences (f.i dancing, photography, creative writing also in the museum). The activities promoted by these educational services are free for children (except some in the vacation period for those who can pay) and paid for adults (except about reading in old age homes and poetry workshops). There are also activities for teachers.
One of the projects to bring new audiences in the museum - called “Lembrar o Passado” (Remember the Past) - consists on going to schools for some months and work with teachers and students about their older relatives professions – it ends with a very participating exhibition by children and families.
Those children who can’t afford paid activities (or even spectacles) are considered by the municipality.
They also presented new cultural buildings: Oliva Creative Factory and Casa das Artes e da Creatividade (Arts and Creativity Hall) that will allow bringing people out of the city thanks to their innovating characteristics and dimensioning – in these buildings there will be a creative business centre, a contemporary art centre and the possibility to develop their own theatre productions.
3. Laboratorio del Cittadino from Italy is an Environmental association... scientific theatre with children to “educate” their parents, e.g. about Primo Levi – see movie about “atomo di carbonio” – linked with a visit to Auschwitz.
4. Cedru Heritage Team – Romania – see power point presentation/ own report. After the 1st meeting, the association disseminated the results and presented all the European Education Programmes that can be used to support activities and training : Pestalozzi, Grundtvig, LLP, Youth in action...(9 December). Then they disseminated the info on their site, YouTube, newspapers and 18+ exhibition.
The teachers that are present also use sign language to involve deaf people in their activities. Two of them also work in prisons. Artistic activities and workshops: dance, theatre, singing... they make posters... with young people. Non formal or informal education is a good way to motivate all kinds of learner (adults) but mainly special needs ones à self confidence, new competences...
5. Musée départemental Maurice Denis – FR, introduces its activities/workshops based on drawing, painting, sculpture, engraving/etching... with adults or young people, with or without special needs, in the museum/institutions but also with hospitals (people come to the museum but they would like to go more to hospitals...). The museum also organizes exhibitions with different partners. They also provide teacher training sessions.
6. Latvia – Akniste local history museum – thanks to the 1st meeting, decided to improve their use of ICT to show a larger public their missions and activities... which are focused on preserving local craft, life skills and local heritage, local jobs, material etc... e.g. the story of an iron... a tool for both women and men (!)... that you can use without electricity... The mission of the museum is not only “to be visited and that’s it” but also to propose artistic and practical workshops with f.i. grand-parents coming and explaining how life was in the past, showing dance, crafts and life skills work-process etc. This is based on voluntary participation. The municipality understood the importance of this enthusiast museum and decided to support the action financially.
7. Musée du patrimoine médiéval mosan – BE – its aim is to let their museum recognized by the local population as their own heritage but the social level of the people is so low that they don’t accept to enter the museum. They invited children, and it worked, but the parent’s didn’t and don’t follow. So they have to develop new activities to find “the” solution. This is HEFORE project’s main goal : exchange the best practices with partners. Another mission of the museum is to train teachers.
